NO increase in jeepney fares in Region 1 expected soon.

This was assured by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to commuters.

“Right now there is no order yet from the LTFRB for a fare hike for the PUJ (public utility jeepneys) in Region 1,” the agency’s post on Facebook read in Filipino.

It said the minimum fare remains at Php 8.

“The notice that we earlier posted is solely for the purpose of informing the public that the Petition to increase the PUJ minimum fare is set for hearing. This is a mandatory requirement under LTFRB Rules of Practice and Procedure/Rules and Regulations,” the advisory said.

It added, ”The filing of the petition does not mean approval of the same. That is why a hearing is needed to determine if there is factual an legal basis for its approval.”

The hearing on the petition to increase the PUJ minimum fare from P8 to P12 is set on Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. at the LTFRB Regional Office No. 1 in San Fernando City, La Union. (PhilStar Wire Service)
