THE vice gubernatorial race took a new twist after retired police colonel Paterno Orduna withdrew his candidacy on Oct. 23.

He was substituted by Mark Ronald Lambino, son of Secretary Raul Lambino, administrator and chief executive officer of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority and concurrently the presidential adviser of Northern Luzon, on Oct. 24 at the provincial office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Lambino, and his wife Mary Marilyn were accompanied to the Comelec office by his gubernatorial tandem, Alaminos City Mayor Arthur Celeste and Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico III who is eyeing a congressional seat in the Fifth District.

Orduna backed out from the race due to health reason. Both are from the Nationalist People’s Coalition party.

The young Lambino served as executive assistant in the Office of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation until Sept. 2018.

Lambino told local newsmen that it is time for him “to give back to Pangasinan” and accepted the offer of Celeste to be his runningmate.

He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Geography at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, his Master’s Degree in Public Management at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Celeste said when he filed his COC, he had several choices for his runningmate like the Estrellas, the Cojuangcos, Agabas but at that time, Lambino was already a nominee of ABAKADA partylist.

Mark withdrew his nomination to the ABAKADA party list after he received and accepted Celeste’s offer.

“If you see the qualifications of Mark Lambino, I’m sure our provincemates will not go wrong if they will choose him eventually,” Celeste said.

Celeste said he and Lambino will prioritize peace and order, livelihood and education.

“I saw the resume of Mark and he is a good planner,” he said, quoting what lawyer Arthel Caronongan, who is the chief of staff of Pagcor Chairman Andrea Domingo, said about Lambino.

Celeste is running under Nacionalista Party while Lambino is with the NPC. “This is a coalition group composed of NP, NPC, Lakas and Hugpong, he said.” (PhilStar Wire Service)
