Candidates, keep your CoC copy – Comelec

THE provincial election supervisor of Pangasinan advised candidates to keep their personal copies of their certificate of candidacy (CoC) for Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) possible evaluation of their certificates.

Marino Salas of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Pangasinan said the BIR had asked some candidates for copies of their filed CoCs in the last Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

He said some candidates had to ask Comelec office to secure copies but Comelec had no copies to give them.

“So I told them (candidates) it’s better to have an extra personal copy just in case the BIR asks for it (again),” he said.

Salas said previously, the BIR asked the Comelec for copies of some candidates’ CoC but he said he could not release the copies because the Data Privacy Act prevents it from doing so.

“So I told them to ask the candidates themselves,” he said.

He said based on reports reaching his office, there were candidates during last Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in some towns where the BIR sent notices asking for copies of their COCs but not all received the notices.

He said it’s always advisable to have a personal copy of CoC on file for his/her future use. (PhilStar Wire Service)
