THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional office said five coastal areas in Pangasinan remain red tide-free based on the latest laboratory analyses conducted on Oct. 12.

Shellfish Bulletin No. 26 reported that based on the results of the laboratory analyses “shrimps, crabs and seashells like mussels and oysters gathered from the coastal areas from Alaminos City, Bani, Bolinao, Anda and Sual are free from toxic red tide and are safe for human consumption”.

BFAR Region 1 Director Lilibeth Signey said as a precautionary measure, five coastal towns are advised to require their market inspectors, quarantine officers, administrators to demand traders for Auxiliary Invoice from the point of origin or Local Transport Permit issued by BFAR for all fish and fishery products including seashells unloaded and marketed to ensure that it did not come from areas positive of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning.
