ALAMINOS CITY–The provincial board recently approved the city ordinance increasing the rate of “environmental fee” from P40 to 60 that will be collected from visitors to the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) in this city.

The collection of the fee took effect on Sept. 7, according to a Facebook post by Mayor Arthur Celeste, “to generate additional funds for the maintenance and development of the HINP facilities and for other purposes”.

The Alaminos City ordinance authored by Councilor Carolyn Sison said the ordinance is to support the continued implementation of programs and projects of the city government to attain the full development anchored on eco- tourism.

“With the current trend of guest arrivals at the HINP, there is a need to provide more facilities and manpower and at the same time maintain existing facilities to ensure the comfort of guests during their visits,” the ordinance said.

The revenue will also be used to preserve and conserve the natural beauty of the HINP, specifically to expand its environmental protection programs.  Among them is the propagation of giant clams, coral transplantation and the activation of new technology acquired from the University of the Philippines.
