FLOODING IN THE CITY

THE Sangguniang Panlungsod passed several resolutions addressed to two national agencies seeking their help to mitigate the impact of flooding in Dagupan aggravated by the swelling of the Sinocalan River.

Passed during its regular session on September 3 were addressed to:

  1. Department of Health (DOH) Sec. Francisco Duque III, seeking the elevation of the first floor of the Region I Medical Center in Dagupan which gets inundated every time Dagupan is affected by massive flood for the benefit of patients and R1MC personnel.;

    2. Public Works Secretary Mark Villar seeking his help to complete the Sinocalan dike project and to allocate funds for the construction of the Agno River Flood Control Phase III. (The main cause of flooding in Dagupan was being blamed on the  collapsed dike in Barangay Alibago, Sta. Barbara protecting the Sinocalan River,  which to this day has not been repaired).

    3. Fourth Engineering District and Second Engineering District, both of DPWH, seeking their cooperation to closely coordinate with the City Engineering Office of Dagupan for the preparation of a plan for every barangay for submission to the Sangguniang Panlungsod on or before October 1, 2018.

    4. Pangasinan Engineering District II, in coordination with the Fourth Engineering District, to present a flood control plan in coordination with the Chief Executive Office and in in consultation with the National Irrigation Administration to present recommendations and for submission of such   plan to the SP on or before October 1, 2018.

    The above resolutions were authored by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo.

Meanwhile, Councilor Alvin Coquia authored the resolution requesting Mayor Belen Fernandez to direct City Engineer Virginia Rosario to submit to the SP a situational report on the status of waterways and drainage canals in the city and recommend plans. (Leonardo Micua)
