THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently turned over more than P1.2M seed capital to Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPA) in different barangays in the city on August 28.

The fund will be used for various projects launched by the SLPAs particularly community stores and rice retailing. The fund is part of the resources that help bridge vulnerable communities to productive means of livelihood.

The associations that received funds were the Mamalingling (Kapayapaan SLPA); Pogo Chico (Pogo Chico SLPA); Calmay (Rosegie SLPA); Bonuan Binloc (Tagumpay SLPA); Pantal-Calmay (Kapitbisig SLPA) and Pugaro Suit (Magandang Buhay SLPA, Lapu Lapu SLPA).

The SLP project of DSWD provides marginalized and vulnerable members of the community access to opportunities to improve their well-being.

Under the program, beneficiaries participate in capacity-building activities to prepare them before choosing from two tracks available under the program, namely the micro-enterprise development track for those who carry potential for entrepreneurship; and employment facilitation track for those qualified and ready for available employment opportunities.

City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) Officer Leah Aquino said the city’s beneficiaries, who are also 4Ps members, underwent training on simple business management and accounting practices before the funds were approved.

Aquino also said that the project will be closely monitored by the city through the CSWD and the designated SLP Coordinator. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
