JULY 2016-DECEMBER 2017 UNITS

IF you bought your vehicle during the period July 2016 to December 2017, your LTO plates are available and ready for pick up at your car dealer where your vehicle was purchased.

Glorioso Daniel Martinez, chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Dagupan City, announced with the clarification as some motorists are unclear whether car plates for their old vehicles are already available for pick up.

“What are being distributed by car dealers are plate numbers released by the LTO for new cars purchased during the said period,” Martinez said.  “New plate numbers for new cars are different from those that are for replacement or for a duplicate.” he added.

No replacement plates can be issued since these are covered by the temporary restraining order issued by the Supreme Court after the Commission on Audit found some discrepancies in the procurement process.

He said the second batch of the release of new plate numbers is underway in the next two months.

Meanwhile, there are still no new plate numbers for motorcycles.

Martinez pointed out that the clearing of backlog in the issuance of drivers’ licenses is almost completed

“It is now available anytime,” he said.

He said the applicant for a driver’s license will have to complete the application process: encoding, picture-taking, biometrics, which normally take no more than 30 minutes and the license card can be released.

An applicant for a student driver’s license must be at least 17 years old, and must submit copies of Philippine Statistics Authority-issued birth certificate and medical certificate of the applicant. (With PhilStar wire service report)
