COMELEC sets special registration lane for PWDs, senior citizens

THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) conducted a special registration for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and Senior Citizens on September 5 in all COMELEC offices nationwide.

Lawyer Marino Salas, Provincial Election Supervisor said the program gave priority for the vulnerable sector as part of the gender and development program of the COMELEC

Aside from the special registration day, COMELEC has designated a priority lane for PWDs and Senior Citizens during regular days of registration in all COMELEC offices province wide.

The deadline for registration of voters and updating of data of voters for the May 2019 local and national elections will be on September 29, 5 p.m.

He advised new voters to avoid last-minute registration since his office only has computers that can only serve 300 maximum capacity.

So far, 66,700 new voters have registered from July to August. The number will be added to the 1,791,000 that voted in last Barangay and SK elections.

COMELEC Pangasinan is also preparing for the automated election on May 2019 using the same computers but expects some modifications.

The period for filing of certificates of candidacies is October 1 to October 5. (Nora Dominguez)
