LINGAYEN—A week after 13 police chiefs in Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and La Union were sacked from their posts due to poor performance, six more from Pangasinan municipal police stations were also relieved on August 8.

P/Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, police regional director, ordered the relief of police chiefs in the municipal police stations of Asingan, San Manuel, Sison, Sta. Maria, Balungao and Aguilar for failing the monthly Chief of Police Performance Evaluation Rating (COPPER).

“To make sure that the entire organization is working well starts with the placement of competitive and dynamic leaders that will spearhead the organization,’’ Sapitula said.

P/Superintendent Mary Crystal Peralta, chief of the Regional Public Information Office, said, there are standards that need to be met by police chiefs, not only in illegal drugs operations but in the totality of their performance that includes anti-illegal gambling anti-criminality, police community precincts, among others.

She said action taken in Pangasinan was delayed by Sapitula to give police chiefs one-week extension owing to the severe flooding that hit many towns and cities.

The six police chiefs failed to pass COPPER (Chief of Police Performance Evaluation Rating), Peralta said.

She said Sapitula had warned the police chiefs and told them to perform well or be sacked.

Those relieved are assigned as checkpoint officers in their police stations while their deputies take over as acting police chiefs, she said.

Meanwhile, Sapitula commended the dedication of the men and women of the Mangaldan Police Station for refusing bribe money from a daughter of an arrested suspected drug pusher.

According to P/Superintendent Jay Baybayan, OIC-police chief of Mangaldan Police Station, Janila de Guzman, a resident of Mangaldan tried to bribe the duty police officers to release her mother, Laila De Guzman who was arrested for violation of RA 9165.

P5,000.00 was recovered as evidence money for the crime. De Guzman was charged for violation of Article 212 of Revised Penal Code (Corruption of Public Officials).

“Our regional director gives proper commendation to those who do good in their job,” Peralta said. (PhilStar Wire Service)
