This was confirmed by Bismarck Bengwayan, PDEA Region 1 public information officer and chief of Preventive Education and Community Involvement Section.

Bengwayan said, there are only 28 towns and one city, out of 44 towns and 4 cities, that have been cleared of illegal drugs, namely: Alaminos City, Agno, Laoac, Dasol, Mapandan, San Nicolas, Natividad, Anda, Mabini, Alcala, Malasiqui, Burgos, Sta. Sto. Tomas was earlier declared by the Dangerous Drugs Board as drug free.

Meanwhile, PDEA Provincial Officer Dexter Asayco said with the direct supervision of Regional Director Bryan B. Babang, the Pangasinan unit conducted buy-bust operations that led to the arrests of five high-value targets.

Arrested were Peter Roy Oliganga Lazo and Jay Oliganga Benito (for selling four sachets of suspected shabu in Barangay Pao in Mapandan), Christopher Sta. Maria Cervantes, alias Tabo; Ace Bentenilla Dupitas (on the watch list) and Joshua Bautista Gorospe (for selling dried marijuana leaves and seeds).

Also confiscated were seven pieces of transparent plastic sachet with shabu residue, one digital weighing scale and assorted drug paraphernalia, one piece genuine one-thousand-peso bill, six pieces 1,000 peso bill boodle money.

Cases of violation to section 5 in relation to section 26, paragraph b, section 11 and 12 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 (selling of illegal drugs) have been filed against the arrested suspects. (Nora Dominguez)
