CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO – The two-week campaign against street crimes in Region 1 has so far recorded the arrests of 2,281 persons.

Police Regional Office 1 Director, Chief Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula, said the arrests were made during the implementation of Oplan RODY (Rid the Streets of Drinkers and Youth).

Of the number, 326 persons were apprehended for drinking in prohibited places; 125 were caught smoking in public areas; 64 were nabbed for being half-naked in public places; 1,313 others were apprehended due to violation of curfew hours and 453 were apprehended for violations of other ordinances to include trouble, stoning, gang wars, urinating in public places, loitering and no wearing of helmets by motorcycle riders.

Sapitula said these persons were later released after questioning.

Oplan RODY was implemented in line with the intention of the President Rodrigo Duterte of going after violators of city/municipal ordinances in the country.

“Our intention is not to ruin your (loiterers) leisure time or to accuse you of anything, but it is a proactive way of preventing crimes,” Sapitula told the arrested violators of local ordinances.

He added that this is just a collaboration to strictly enforce several ordinances known to everyone.

P/Superintendent Cherry M. Fajardo, PRO1 spokesperson, said street crimes are not new and are common problems of communities.

She reiterated the appeal for public’s support by reporting any crime or illegal activities to the nearest police stations or call 072-607-6582. (PRO1)
