More dengue, leptospirosis cases; less acute gastroenteritis this year

WITH the onset of rainy days, there is an increase of 99% in cases of dengue in Pangasinan as of July 26.

Dra. Ana de Guzman, provincial health officer said 2,589 cases with 9 deaths were recorded or a 99% increase compared to the 1,303 cases over the same period in 2017.

The cities and towns placed under PHO watch list are: Urdaneta City (246 cases, 2 deaths), San Carlos City (166 cases, 1 death), Binmaley (133 cases, 1 death), Asingan (132, 1 death), Mangaldan (111 cases, 1 death), Pozorrubio (106 cases, 1 death), Alaminos City (177 cases), Bayambang (199, cases) , Dagupan City (137 cases), Lingayen (112 cases) and Binalonan (79 cases).

Acute gastroenteritis from January to July 26, only 4,576 cases were reported or a 33% decrease as compared to the 6,597 cases last year over the same period. However, 16 reportedly died of it.

Placed under PHO watch list are Dagupan City (504 cases, 4 deaths), San Carlos City (367 cases, 3 deaths), Calasiao (274 cases, 2 deaths), Bayambang (265 cases, 1 death), Lingayen (218 cases, 1 death), Mangaldan (196 cases,1 death), Binmaley (166 cases, 1 death), Umingan (227 cases), Malasiqui (219 cases), Sta. Barbara (173 cases) and San Fabian (151 cases).

There was an increase of leptospirosis cases by 46% as of July 26, 2018 with 67 cases and 12 deaths compared to 48 cases with 8 deaths last year.

Under PHO watch list of leptospirosis cases are: Dagupan City (17 cases, 2 deaths), Sual (5 cases, 2 deaths), Manaoag (4 cases, 3 deaths), Alaminos City (3 cases, 1 death), Mangaldan (4 cases) and Urdaneta City (4 cases). (Nora Dominguez)
