FLOOD OR NO FLOOD

Flood or no flood, the police continue to operate against suspected drug dealers in all towns.

P/SR. Superintendent Wilson Lopez, acting police provincial director, said members of Drug Enforcement Team (DET) in every police station, were still busy monitoring and conducting buy-bust operations against illegal drug peddlers even during the flood in many towns.

He told the KBP Forum at Radio Station DZRD on Thursday that while some policemen are helping rescue residents trapped in their homes, DET teams have not been relieved of their duties.

“We know that the drug peddlers among our provincemates have not stopped their illegal activities,” he said.

The buy-bust operations and the suspects arrested are reported daily in incident reports being sent to the media by the PNP public information office headed by P/Chief Inspector Norman Forentino.

He said most of those arrested were newly emerged/identified drug personalities and former drug surrenderers who voluntarily turned themselves in during the early stages of Oplan Tokhang.

Asked if the former drug surrenderers were being monitored since their surrender, Lopez said they were being monitored that was why it was easy to set them up in buy-bust operations.

Lopez said that since he took over the Pangasinan police, he also saw to it that all members of the Drug Enforcement Team in every police station in 48 towns and cities of Pangasinan are verified to be negative of drug-use.

“I had all of them take the drug test to make sure that as drug enforcers, they are not taking any illegal drug,” he added.

Meanwhile, P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, chief of the police community relations office of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, there are now 28 towns in Pangasinan declared drug free by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

He said 14 more towns are awaiting validation to be declared drug-free by PDEA region 1 while three towns are due to complete few requirements for validation.

He said that all towns and cities were actually already validated by PDEA-Pangasinan.

He confirmed that so far, Pangasinan has a higher clearance rating than other provinces in Region 1. (Leonardo Micua)
