NO DAM WATER RELEASE EXPECTED

ROSALES–Moderate to occasional heavy rains dumped by Tropical Storm Inday overnight on July 19 till the following morning caused water level of rivers crisscrossing Pangasinan to rise slowly, threatening and inducing flood in at least 34 towns and cities in eastern and central Pangasinan.

Flood Bulletin No. 1 issued by the Agno River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (ARBFFWC) based in Tumana, Rosales at 4:00 a.m. on July 20 noted slow rise of water of the Allied-Sinocalan, Ingalera and Tagamusing rivers, threatening flood in the low-lying areas of Sta. Barbara, Calasiao, Binalonan, Malasiqui and the cities of Dagupan and Urdaneta.

Possible flooding in Mangaldan, Mapandan, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Laoac, Manaoag, Sison and Pozorrubio due to the slow rise of Allied-Bued, Patalan, Angalacan, and Aloragat Rivers was forecasted for the weekend.

At press time, ARBFFWC said flooding was expected in the low-lying areas of San Nicolas, San Manuel, Asingan, Tayug, Sta. Maria, Balungao, Rosales, Villasis, Sto. Tomas, Alcala, Bautista, Bayambang, San Carlos City, Urbiztondo Mangatarem, Aguilar, Bugallon and Lingayen, if rains didn’t stop.

Under tight watch by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) headed by retired Col. Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro as of press time are Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Malasiqui, Labrador, Mabini, Lingayen, Mangatarem, Bani, Alaminos, Labrador, and Bugallon.

Ron Dale Castillo, PDRRMO research and planning officer, said overnight rains on July 19 till early morning the following day, measured at 17 mm. per hour caused 2 to five feet flooding in 52 barangays.

This prompted the evacuation of 57 families or 348 individuals in various towns of Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, PDRRMO ruled out any release of impounded water from the San Roque Multi-Purpose Dam because the elevation of water from the reservoir is still way down below the critical level despite the moderate to heavy rains in the upland. (Leonardo Micua)
