THE Provincial Health Office (PHO) was particularly cited by Gov. Amado Espino III for its outstanding services to the province in his Second State of the Province Address on July 2.

Espino cited among others the I Love Pangasinan Kalusugan Karaban (ILPKK) that aided 217, 199 Pangasinenses in 756 clustered barangays after conducting mobile health clinic three times a week.

The Mobile Diagnostic Bus was launched for the ILPKK providing state-of-the-art facilities such as X-ray, Ultrasound and other diagnostic equipment.

The ILPKK offered medical consultations, surgeries, dental services, feeding programs and vaccinations and free vaccinations for senior citizens.

With the help of the doctors of Philippines Obstetrics and Gynecological Society (POGS), a forum on pregnancy and birth for mothers was held and free pre-natal check-ups, ultrasound and laboratory examinations were also provided.

Espino said with the help of PHO, Department of Health (DOH), and Rural health units (RHUs), almost 100% of all pregnant women in the province were able to give birth in hospitals and birthing facilities. The effort led to the reduction of mortality rate from 5.44 death per 1,000 live birth in 2016 to 4.4 deaths per 1000 live births in 2017.

Pangasinan has since earned the status as malaria-free province with no recorded cases since 2011 and because of Pangasinan’s outstanding public health service, it has been cited by the DOH as Champion Province for the Best LGU Implementer in 2017. (PIO)
