KNOWING he must lead by example when he filed a resolution asking all government officials and employees in Dagupan to take a drug test, City Councilor Dennis Canto did just that before he filed the resolution.

Canto said he did so when be became manager of the Dagupan JDC Drug Testing Center established by his father, Dr. Jesus D. Canto.

But he said he is willing to repeat the procedure together with the rest of the city councilors who approved his resolution will take the drug test at the same time to prove that they are sincere about their intention.

“We will all do this as soon as we have determined the drug center accredited by the government that can perform the procedure at least cost,” Canto said.

Councilor Marvin Fabia, who co-authored the resolution, said all members of the city council are in fact preparing to take the drug test to set an example to their constituents.

Canto said drug testing is not new to government officials because this is a requirement of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) to all newly hired public servants.

At the same time, most if not all of the elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials already underwent drug tests before and after filing their respective certificates of candidacy. (Leonardo Micua)
