Waste 2 Worth program, our legacy to next generations – MBTF

THE vision to establish a $11-million Waste to Worth Facility in Dagupan will be a reality in just a few months following its groundbreaking on June 18 in Barangay Bonuan Binloc led by Jill Boughton, founder of Sure Global, the American company that will build the project at no cost to the city.

Mayor Belen Fernandez was assured by Boughton that the project, which will convert plastic wastes into diesel fuel and food wastes into methane gas, will be constructed this year.

“The Waste to Worth project shall be a legacy we shall be leaving our children and for the future generations to come,” added Fernandez.

“I heard it will just take a few months to get the project get started,” Fernandez said citing the preparations already being undertaken by Sure Global for the construction of the facility and to bring in the equipment.

She said the diesel that will be produced from the facility is a premium type of diesel, same in quality as the premium diesel fuel used by jeepneys and other diesel-fed vehicles.

The mayor said the Dagupan City government will spearhead the campaign for the sale and use of the premium diesel in the province that will be produced by the project.

The groundbreaking rite was attended by department heads of the city government, barangay officials, DepEd and 2018 Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran officials.

Meanwhile, the methane gas that will be produced from food wastes will be given free to operators or drivers of motorized tricycles who will be expected to convert their units to be powered by methane gas.

She told newsmen she will encourage some 300 of the 750 new tricycle franchises that will be issued to convert to gas engines to avail of free methane gas.

At the same time, Sure Global and its partner, Procter and Gamble Philippines, committed to make the Waste to Energy facility the model not only in the Philippines but also in Southeast Asia.

Fernandez expressed confidence the facility will be a big boon to Dagupan since it will eventually clear the dump site and improve the waste disposal management in the city.

Clearing of the dumpsite will allow for the extension of the boardwalk that was already started in Bonuan Gueset towards Bonuan Boquig and Bonuan Binloc, said Fernandez.

She revealed that she met with incoming Barangay Chairman Noel Bumanglag of Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig Chairman Joseph Maramba and Bonuan Binloc Chairman Joshua Gonzales to discuss the extension of boardwalk in order to attract more tourists to Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
