Vargas: Girl Scouts mission is to empower women

THE Girl Scouts of the Philippines-Pangasinan Chapter has installed a new set of officers expected to further empower the young women in the society.

Lingayen Municipal Councilor Judy de Leon Vargas, newly installed GSP president in the province, said the new officers will help intensify its campaign to recruit more girl scouts from the community who are willing to reach out to women who are in need of help.

Vargas said there are still schools in Pangasinan that have no active GSP chapters so this will be the main mission of the new set of officers.

“Because the society traditionally describes women as the “weaker sex”, there is a need to further empower our womenfolk through volunteerism, to make women more productive and more relevant to our communities,” Vargas said. (Nora Dominguez)
