LINGAYEN—“We are now half way to victory in our opposition against the construction of a new coal-fired power plant.”

This was the claim of former Sual Vice Mayor Alex Rigonan, a consultant of the Save Sual Movement (SSM) after learning that the adjacent municipality of Labrador has passed a resolution opposing the establishment of a new coal-fired power plant in Sual since there is already one operated by Team Energy.

He thanked the Sangguniang Bayan of Labrador and Mayor Dominador Arenas, for leading the opposition to the construction and supporting the sentiment of majority of the town’s residents fearing that another coal-fired power plant will pollute the environment and endanger the health of the people.

Rigonan said SSM also fervently hopes that the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Alaminos will follow Labrador in opposing to the construction of another power plant in Sual since the dust particles that may be emitted could affect residents and tourists flocking to that city.

Meanwhile, Rigonan announced the organization of Citizens for Better Sual (CBS) of which he is also a member, a new coalition against the construction of another coal-fired plant in Sual.

The CBS joined by a bigger coalition of concerned citizens of the municipality opposed not only to construction of the plant but also against graft and corruption and all illegal activities in the local government. (Leonardo Micua)
