THE Sangguniang Panlungsod of Dagupan, in its regular session on Monday, passed a resolution requesting the assistance of Gov. Amado Espino III in containing the distribution and transport of fishes from areas hit by fish kill to Dagupan City.

The move was adopted after several trucks and vans loaded with several tons of decaying bangus that died from fish kill in Anda and Bolinao were transported to Dagupan to be sold at the City Fish Market.

Fortunately, these were intercepted along the way by the Dagupan Police and personnel of the City Agriculture Office (COA) before the decaying fish could be unloaded in the fish market and be sold to wholesalers and retailers.

The decaying fish were seized and later buried inside premises of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Bonuan Binloc.

Mayor Belen Fernandez has ordered a close watch of roads leading to Dagupan City and the fish market in the city.

A vendor was charged for attempting to sell fish from the fish kill in Anda and Bolinao, passing them off as Dagjupan bangus.

Mayor Fernandez said the bangus in Dagupan was not affected by the fish kill and their retail price remains at P130 per kilo.

She said if the bangus from the fishkill in western Pangasinan are sold in the Dagupan Fish Market, it could adversely affect the price of the Dagupan bangus.

Bangus in some markets in western Pangasinan were selling at only P40 per kilo a few days after the fish kill in Anda and Bolinao. (Leonardo Micua)
