LINGAYEN – Medical doctors and staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital (OLLH) provided free-of-charge surgical services to indigent patients last June 1-3 at the new Operating Room – Delivery Room Bolinao Community Hospital (BCH).

Held in partnership with the provincial government, the surgical mission headed by the Holy Spirit Sisters conducted 18 major surgery and 68 minor surgery.

Among the surgical procedures done included thyroidectomy, herniorrhaphy/ herniotomy, cleft lips, radical mastectomy (breast mass removal), myoma removal and circumcision.

Hospital Chief Genevieve Rivera said the community hospital’s OR-DR building was used for the first time by OLLH surgery experts.

The new OR-DR building recently completed has complete OR equipment and paraphernalia to accommodate surgical procedures based on the requirements of the Department of Health (DOH) for the hospital’s upgrade to Level I classification.

The OR – DR complex is provided with operating tables, OR light, ultraviolet light, anesthesia machine, suction apparatus, oxygen tank with gauge, OR instruments, ECG machine, and defibrillator.

Rivera said all district and community hospitals run by provincial government have been upgraded by the administration of former governor and now 5th district Representative Amado T. Espino, Jr. and is continued by his son and namesake, Gov. Amado Espino III.

Meanwhile, OLLH Senior Vice President Paul Richard Camangian, who traces his roots to Bolinao, noted the hospital’s dramatic transformation.

“It was then dreary and dark. Today, hindi lang sya maganda sa labas, hanggang sa loob, maganda. Ngayon, para syang district hospital,” Camangian, surgical mission team leader, said. (PIO/MGNO)
