ONLY TWO BARANGAYS NOT CLEARED

THE Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADAC) in the region have reported that 99.93 percent of drug-affected barangays in Region 1 have already been cleared.

This was confirmed by P/Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula who said last week that out of 2,901 affected barangays, 2,899 have been cleared by BADAC in the region.

Sapitula said the two remaining barangays are in Ilocos Sur and are considered as “seriously affected”.

In drug clearing operations in barangays, drug affected areas are classified into three categories, namely, “slightly affected” where drug users are present, “moderately affected” or areas with drug pushers, and “seriously affected” for places with shabu tiangge or store, shabu laboratory, marijuana plantation or chemical warehouse.

The BADAC-cleared barangays are already being validated by PDEA-RO1 (Philippines Drug Enforcement Agency-Regional Office 1) and the Regional Validation Committee.

Sapitula said that 1,584 barangays have already been validated and cleared as drug-free barangays.

“Our police have further intensified their anti-illegal drugs campaign to prevent the resurgence of this menace in these barangays,” he said.

The anti-drug campaign of Police Regional Office 1 has recorded a total of 39,502 drug surrenderers, composed of 36, 158 users and 3,344 pushers. Of these surrenderers, 29,191 underwent Recovery Wellness Program initiated by the police and local government units through their health units and social welfare development offices.

Since the start of the anti-drug war on July 1, 2016 to May 29, a total of 3,217 drug personalities have been arrested by the police and charged in court. (Eva Visperas)
