Youth groups urged to register with YORP

THE National Youth Commission (NYC) has reiterated its call to youth and youth serving organizations to register under the Youth Organizations’ Registration Program (YORP).

“It is to the best interest of the youth organizations that they become registered and be accredited by the NYC,” according to Assistant Secretary James Ceasar Ventura, NYC commissioner-at-large said.

“Once registered, the youth organizations will be provided with opportunities to get involved in mainstream youth development activities,” he said.

The NYC is mandated by Republic Act 8044 or the Youth in Nation Building Act of 1995 to come up with a registry of youth organizations nationwide.

“The YORP registration process has been simplified and the YORP registration forms are accessible online.” Ventura said in a statement.

After compliance with the requirements, NYC issues certificates of registration to qualified organizations that will serve as their passports to various opportunities.

As YORP registered organizations, they can participate in the local youth development councils and advocate for financial and logistical support from the local government unit; widen organizational networks, partnerships and opportunities for joint project implementation; increase opportunities for its members to participate in capacity building programs, local and international exchange programs, fora and conferences; gain better opportunity to be nominated for presidential awards, citations and commendations; enrich experience in group work, team building activities, and enhance leadership and coordination skills that provide a better edge in job applications, among others.
