Two suspected ‘hit men’ arrested in Calasiao

CALASIAO—Tension escalated in Calasiao when two armed men from Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac, were arrested by the police in Barangay San Vicente at 11:45 p.m. on May 9.

The suspects were identified as Romeo Ubaldo, 53, a farmer from Barangay Calipayan, Sta. Ignacio, Tarlac, and Herminiano Sadaba, 49, of Barangay Padapada, Sta. Ignacia.

Concerned citizens of Barangay San Vicente told the police they saw the two armed suspects along the barangay road on board a motorcycle obviously waiting for somebody at an ungodly hour.

Seized from Ubaldo was one Armscor cal. 9mm pistol with 9 bullets while Sadapawas was in possession of another 9 mm. pistol marked “Buddy” with 7 bullets.

When accosted by policemen, the two could not present any document of ownership of their handguns or document showing their exemption from the election gun ban.

The arrest of the two armed men created panic among residents in the whole town as this incident happened just two days after Barangay Bued, Calasiao, was declared as one of the five barangays in election watch list areas in Pangasinan.

Residents suspected the two, described as strangers in town, could be hitmen out to eliminate unnamed candidates.

Both suspects were charged with violation of Republic Act 10591 on illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and violation of the election gun ban. (Leonardo Micua)
