SENATOR Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and Mayor Belen T. Fernandez led the groundbreaking ceremony for the new multi-purpose covered court gym at West Central Elementary School I on April 27.

With them were Mrs. Venus Estonillo of DepEd Dagupan, WCES I Principal Valentina Hortaleza and the school’s faculty members.

Senator Angara (third from right) and City Mayor. Fernandez (2nd from left) lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a multi-purpose covered court gym at West Central Elementary School 1 on April 27.

The multi-purpose building, supported by a ₱6.3 million fund from the senator, will be the ninth covered court to be established by the Fernandez administration.

Mayor Fernandez said the new building will protect the WCES I school children against bad weather during school events “The students are always affected whenever there are events or activities and there is nothing to help them in the heat and during the rainy season,” she said.

Fernandez thanked the senator’s quick response.

Meanwhile, a known advocate for education himself, Senator Angara hailed Mayor Fernandez as an “action woman” and lauded the mayor for her continuous campaign to improve education and for the youth.
“Action woman ang inyong mayor. She is a supporter of education and I hope other cities and municipalities would be able to replicate (what she is doing for Dagupan).”

Angara and Fernandez also attended a joint graduation ceremony for technical-vocational graduates of TESDA Pangasinan at Instituto Centro Asia, Central Asia Institute of Modern Technology and Sta. Catalina College of Science and Technology.

The graduates received incentives such as massage kits and welding tools from the Senator Angara and Mayor Fernandez that will help them start their respective vocations. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
