REGAINING SELF-RESPECT

LINGAYEN—The provincial government is moving forward with the second and important phase of the war on drugs: the rehabilitation of drug personalities who had voluntarily surrendered to seek help.

The second leg of the four-day integrated reformation program of the provincial government under its Pangasinan Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) was held at the Pangasinan Reformation Center from April 17-20 in Burgos town.

The initial success is mirrored in the following sentiment expressed by one of the individuals who completed the program: “Nagpapasalamat po kami kay Governor Amado I. Espino, III gayun din sa lahat ng staff ng Pangasinan Reformation Center dahil po sa programang ito ay natuto kaming mahalin ang aming sarili.”

More than the certificates of completion they received, reformed drug users were thankful for the lessons in life they acquired, particularly, “valuing one’s life and for the friendships developed” inside the center.

This sentiment was shared by the 30 enrollees from Dasol town who completed and accomplished all the requirements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Recovery and Wellness Program.

Livelihood and skills trainings were also organized for them by the Provincial Employment and Services Office, Provincial Population Office, General Services Office, Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, and Office of the Provincial Agriculture.

P/Superintendent Freddie Lorenzo, officer-in-charge at the PNP Dasol station, hailed the program because he said it supports police operations in the war on drugs.

“Kami po sa aming municipality ay nagpapasalamat dahil nabigyan po ng pansin ang aming mga kababayan dahil sa aktibidad na ito,” said Lorenzo. “Ito ay magiging foundation natin kung kaya sana ay magtulungan tayo.”

At the awarding ceremony were: Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rhodyn Oro, head of the PRC’s training directorate; PRC officer-in-charge Eugenie Guiang, chief of Dasol Community Hospital; and Lorenzo.

The PRC started its operation on April 10 with a first batch of reformists from Burgos town. (PIO/ SMDG)
