Ex-barangay chairman shot dead in Asingan
ASINGAN– A former barangay chairman of San Juan in San Manuel town was shot dead in broad daylight on May 3, a day before the start of the campaign for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan election.
Former Barangay Chairman Ricardo Sumajit, alias “Canding”, 67, was on board his Russi motorcycle at past 9:00 a.m. in Barangay Dupac, Asingan bound for the Poblacion when he was gunned down by the back rider of another motorcycle with no plate number that followed him.
Sumajit fell from his motorcycle after sustaining one gunshot wound. Then the gunman alighted from their motorcycle, went near the victim then shot him several times.
The suspects sped towards the direction of San Manuel.
Eleven fired cartridges from a Cal. 45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene.
