Eastern barangays are Gilon-Gilon champs anew

THE staging of Gilon-Gilon in this year’s Bangus Festival proved to be another colorful and engaging competition among clustered barangays of the city.

Adjudged winner for the second time in a row was Cluster 1, composed of the eastern barangays of Dagupan City, besting four other barangay clusters on April 20 at the city plaza and along the main streets of Dagupan.

Led by Barangay Mangin, the other members are Barangays Tebeng, Salisay, Mamalingling, Bolosan, Tambac and Bonuan Binloc.

The back-to-back champion team received the ₱200,000 grand prize and three minor awards as Best in Musicality, Best in Costume and Best in Streetdancing, winning ₱20,000 for each, for a total of ₱260,000.

Cluster 4, composed of Barangay Caranglaan, Herrero-Perez, Bacayao Sur, Mayombo and Bacayao Norte, are this year’s 1st runner-up, received ₱100,000, in addition to winning ₱20,000 for being chosen as Best in Costume, for a total of ₱120,000.

Barangay Pogo Grande, Malued, Pogo Chico, Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande and Lucao of Cluster 5 received ₱80,000 for placing 2nd runner-up.

The 3rd and 4th places went to Cluster 2 and Cluster 3, respectively, and received ₱30,000 and ₱20,000 respectively.

Cluster 2 is composed of Barangays 1, 2, 3, and 4, Tapuac, Poblacion Oeste and Bonuan Gueset.

Meanwhile, Barangays Pugaro, Calmay, Carael, Pantal, Lomboy, Bonuan Boquig and Salapingao make up Cluster 3.

Among those who participated in the motorcade were 2018 Miss Asia International Gerina Chanel Ancheta and GMA-7 Kapuso stars Glaiza De Castro, Gardo Versoza, Rochelle Pangilinan-Solinap, Geoff Eigenmann and Jak Roberto.

The winners of this year’s Gilon Gilon Ed Baley participated as guest performer in the Festivals of the North on April 27 representing Bangus Festival.

Meanwhile, the contingents that competed for the title of the Best Festival of the North are Bado-badoc Festival of Badoc, Ilocos Norte; Daing Festival of Sto. Tomas, La Union; Panagtalon Festival of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Tinungbo Festival of Pugo, La Union; Dinamulag Festival of Masinloc, Zambales, Sinukwan Sisig Festival of Angeles City, Pampanga, and Halamanan Festival of Guiguinto, Bulacan.

In a message at the conclusion of the festival, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said the event mirrors city’s continuous campaign to succeed. “The heart of fish harvest is the expectation that our families are made happier and become fulfilled. This is the extraordinary force that strengthens the City of Dagupan,” she said. (CIO/VDV)
