LINGAYEN—Candidates for positions in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections have until May 2 this year to voluntarily take tests for illegal drug use, the Lingayen Police has pointed out.

P/Chief Inspector Wilmar Pagaduan, town police chief, said he was encouraging all
candidates to take the drug test to ensure that those elected on May 14 are not into illegal drugs.

He added that although drug testing is not compulsory or mandatory, a list of names of candidates for both barangay and SK elections who take the test and those who do not, will be posted prominently in front of the PNP Lingayen Station.

Yun ang disadvantage ng mga kandidatong hindi magpa-drug test,” said
Pagaduan.

They (candidates) will soon become public servants, and to become public servants, dapat handa silang magpa-drug test,” said Pagaduan, explaining the importance of taking the drug test.

Pagaduan stressed that candidates found positive of drug use after a
confirmatory test will be recommended to go through drug rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that one barangay kagawad in the town who had surrendered reportedly because of drug pushing activity and had been also the subject of a search warrant, is seeking reelection. He did not name the kagawad, however.

He reminded all the candidates that they are prohibited from keeping even a licensed firearm at home and are encouraged to surrender these to the police for safekeeping. Those caught with unlicensed firearms will be arrested, he said.

Kailangan i-surrender para maipakita ng kandidato sa mga kabarangay
nila na fair siya. Na hindi siya gagamit ng baril,
” said Pagaduan. (CdD/Queen Garcia)
