Balon Dagupan athletes compete in National Games

TWELVE young athletes from Dagupan City recently competed in the Philippine National Games held in Cebu City on May 19 -25.

Those that competed in karatedo were SEA Games medalist Jayson Ramil Macaalay, Alexis Louise Nunez, John Enrico Vasquez, John Matthew Manantan, Jude Michael Uson, Jz Singsing, Mark Andrew Manantan and Ren Jericho Bistudio.

Balon Dagupan’s finest swimmers and recent Region 1 Athletic Association Meet gold medalists John Carlo Rioflorido, Jeremy Carlo Jizmundo, John Karlo Carulla and Paul Andrew Rioflorido, competed in swimming.

In support of the city’s athletes, the city government headed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez provided the delegation allowance of ₱6,000 each to the athletes and also shouldered their air fare and accommodation expenses.

Meanwhile, Dagupan gymnast Jhun Sahonas is set to join the National Pool of Athletes after bagging two medals in the Manila leg of the National Games on May 14-16.

Sahonas clinched the gold medal in the Power Tumbling event, aside from winning a bronze medal in the Individual Trampoline event.

At the same time, the city’s star swimmers Janel Alisa Lin and Mark Bryan Rioflorido will also represent the Philippines in the upcoming 42nd South East Asian Age Group Swimming Competition which will be held in the Philippines on July 6-8. (CIO/VDV)
