PISTA’Y DAYAT 2018

LINGAYEN—This year’s edition of Pista’y Dayat (Sea Festival) will feature more major sports events that are seen to create a niche for the province in the field of sports.

The first Philippine Beach Games (PBG) will be held on April 28-29 at the Lingayen beachfront, where the first-ever collegiate beach flag football tournament in the country was successfully staged.

“We take pride in hosting the Philippine Beach Games at the Capitol beachfront in collaboration with Hypehouse Production Corp.,” said Modesto Operania, executive officer of the Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC).

Operania cited the vision of Gov. Amado Espino III to promote the Capitol beachfront as a venue for beach and other sport events.

PBG events will include beach flag football, beach volleyball, beach petanque, beach netball, beach football, beach ultimate, beach spikeball and beach handball.

Also, in partnership with Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, the provincial government will hold the Ladies Beach Volleyball featuring local volleybelles at the Capitol beachfront on April 30 at 7 a.m. and May 1 at 10 a.m.

The ninth edition of Paboksing ed Gulpo dubbed “Governor Amado Espino Boxing Cup” will also be held on April 30, from 2 p.m., at the Capitol beachfront where male amateur boxing players (age 12 to 18) will compete in several weight divisions.

Another sporting event that will be held at the Capitol beachfront as part of the Pista’y Dayat is the Pangasinan Skateboarding Competition on April 30, 4 p.m.

Also, the Tigasin Triathlon is scheduled for May 12-13 at the Capitol beachfront, while the 2nd Lingayen Gulf Golf Tournament will be held on May 6, 6 a.m. at the Bonuan Beach Club in Dagupan City.

It will be recalled that it was JP Demontaño, of Hypehouse Production, who introduced the first-ever collegiate beach flag football tournament in the Philippines in Lingayen during the Pista’y Dayat celebration.

In a subsequent letter sent to the provincial government, Demontaño expressed intent of staging the PBG—in partnership with the provincial government—at the Capitol beachfront as an added activity of the Pista’y Dayat celebration to provide entertainment to sports enthusiasts and revelers of Pista’y Dayat.

The awarding ceremony capping the 2nd Governor’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament is on April 29, 2 p.m., at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center gymnasium. (PIO/ MGNO)
