Two notorious guns-for-hire killed

TWO suspected notorious gun-for-hire men and involved in highway robbery were neutralized in the encounter with the members of the Lingayen Police on March 26 shortly after the two slipped past a chokepoint set up by the Lingayen Police in Barangay Quibaoil.

P/ Superintendent Fidel Junio, Lingayen chief of police, said the encounter ensued after the two suspects identified by Lingayen Police as Arthur Ablao y Ordoña alias Bruce Lee, of legal age and resident of Barangay Banuar, Laoac and Romeo Diaz y Mendoza from San Jose, Labrador, riding a motorcycle in tandem, tried to flee from the Lingayen policemen who chased them after the two didn’t stop at the police checkpoint.

Junio said Labrador town’s chief called the police in Lingayen to conduct a dragnet/chokepoint operation after the two suspects sped off while they were being flagged down at a police checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion in Labrador earlier that morning.

Junio said he dispatched a team to barangay Baay in Lingayen where the two suspects attempted to pass.

Upon reaching Barangay Baay in Lingayen, the suspects again ignored the signal of policemen to stop and turned to Barangay Quibaol where policemen pursued them in their own motorcycles.

Nagpang-abot at nagkaroon ng kaunting habulan, hanggang sa nagpaputok itong dalawang nakasakay sa motorsiklo, nag-retaliate ang ating tropa,” he said.

One of the suspects died on the spot while the other was rushed to the Lingayen District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The two did not carry identification cards with them at the time of the encounter.

P/Inspector Enrique Columbino of Lingayen Police Station positively identified the two suspects and their criminal cases.

Two loaded caliber 45 pistols were found from the suspects and several fired cartridges in the crime scene.

Junio later confirmed investigation results that the two were involved in gun-for-hire group and highway robbery in the consecutive robbery hold-up incident in Mangaldan and Dagupan and Labrador Highways.

Among their victims were a bank employee, a student and a soldier whose laptop, cellphones, ID’s and cash were taken. (Nora Dominguez)
