OVER STONING INCIDENTS

LINGAYEN— Peeved by persistent incidence of stoning of buses along highways in the province, the police regional director, P/Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, has warned town police chiefs in the region of “immediate relief” if they fail to stop these incidents.

Sapitula reiterated this policy amid reports that stoning incidents continue in various parts of the region, particularly in Pangasinan, in the past few days.

He said that if there are two stoning incidents that already occurred in a place and the police chief still has no solution, the officer will have to be relieved. “Sorry na lang sila,” he said.

Because of the continuing bus stoning incidents, Sapitula has relieved eight chiefs of police thus far in the region, four of whom are from Pangasinan.

The police regional director met executives of bus companies in a meeting in Lingayen last month to respond to complaints about the unchecked stoning incidents.

The latest incidents reported were in Urdaneta City where two suspects were arrested, one in Dagupan City, and another in Bayambang.

Kung naka-dalawa nang insidente sa isang lugar, sorry na lang sa chief of police. He will be relieved from his post,” Sapitula added.

He said he is also considering a plan to charge parents of arrested minors since they must suffer the consequences for their kids who cannot be jailed because of the law protecting minors.

Sapitula said there can be no justifiable reason for stoning buses. (Leonardo Micua)
