Most BSKE candidates filed COCs on April 18

NUMBER 8, considered a lucky number among Filipino and Chinese numerologists, drove candidates vying for elective posts in the coming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to file their certificates of candidacy (COC) on Aril 18, 2018, the fifth day of filing period, across Pangasinan.

Data gathered from the Comelec provincial office at the People’s Astrodome in Dagupan City showed that on April 18, alone, a total of 1,276 candidates for punong barangay (village chairman) and 8,991 for barangay kagawad (village councilman) filed their COCs.

The filers for barangay chairman from April 14 to 17 was only 1, 132.

The same holds true for barangay kagawad on the four days of filing which had a total of 8,188.

For the SK elections, on April 18 alone, there were 651 candidates for SK chairman and 2,426 for SK kagawad who filed their COCs. In the preceding four days, 788 COCs were filed for SK chairman, and 2,653 for kagawad.

According to website www.fengshuiforreallife.com, 8 is a popular number in Chinese feng shui because the word for it sounds like that for “prosperous growth” in Chinese.

So far, 86 percent of candidates for barangay chairman are male while only 14 percent are female; candidates for barangay kagawad are 79 percent male and 21 percent female.

For SK chairman, 63 percent of filers are male while 37 percent is female. For SK kagawad, 56 percent are male and 44 percent female. (Eva Visperas)
