Enhanced Task Force Maharlika in place during Holy Week

LINGAYEN—If motorists suffered little or no inconvenience along the main highways in the province during the Holy Week observance, that’s partly due to the deployment of policemen, multipliers and personnel of concerned Local Government Units as well as those of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the Enhanced Task Force Maharlika this Holy Week and on other special occasions.

Task Force Maharlika, headed by P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, has support groups that included personnel of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) management and radio communications groups and media.

Enhanced Task Force Maharlika was tasked not only to ensure the safety and security of motorists, but to maintain smooth flow of traffic along the major thoroughfares particularly along the Maharlika Highway passing Rosales, Villasis-Urdaneta City, Binalonan, Pozorrubio and Sison.

This part of the national highway had been anticipated as the bottleneck area during peak/rush hours in view of the big number of vehicles traveling to Baguio, La Union and the Ilocos region.

This area was declared as Traffic Discipline Zone together with other major highways in Pangasinan during the Holy Week and after.

Various alternate routes were established to unclog expected choke points leading to Baguio and La Union.

The task force monitored status of all the roads leading to the north on a 24/7 basis.
With its personnel and heavy equipment, the DPWH acted to remove clogging or tow vehicles that stalled along the highways.  (Leonardo Micua)
