WHILE the nation is fixated with the Denvaxia scare, Pangasinenses are told to watch out for sore eyes, prickly heat, skin irritation, rabies, chicken pox, sunburn and heat stroke.

It’s summer, that’s why!

Provincial Health Office (PHO) reminded the public particularly those constantly exposed to the sun to take precautionary actions to remain healthy during summer season.

Dra. Ana Marie de Guzman, PHO head, said to prevent skin diseases one must maintain cleanliness and personal hygiene, and to refrain from bathing in public swimming pools.

“Kung may nararamdaman sila dapat kaagad na magpasuri, libre naman sa ating health centers at iwasan ang self medication baka lalo pang lumala,” de Guzman said.

PHO also warned against eating street foods and halo-halo (concern is about the quality of the water used to make the ice) because of bacteria.

Meanwhile, PHO is watching out for rabies cases and advised pet owners to have their pets vaccinated for anti-rabies.

She said chicken pox, like dengue and measles, is preventable through vaccination which is given free in Rural Health centers.

She advised parents not be carried away by the Dengvaxia scare and reject vaccines for chicken pox and measles for their children.

“Alam namin natakot ang marami sa bakuna because of dengvaxia, pero itong mga bakuna ng tigdas at chicken pox ay matagal na nating ginagamit sa atin at walang problema,” she said. (Nora Dominguez)
