Balucos rules ‘Werweran ed Mangaldan’ bikefest

MANGALDAN – TOUR veteran Joel Balucos of Manila used his vast experience to outrun the best from a field of 58 riders and outsprinted his breakaway partner Robeno Javier of Sto. Tomas town in the last 400 meters, to rule the 41st Werweran ed Mangaldan 2018 held on March 11.

The duo uncorked a blistering pace in the bumpy and potholed Pozorrubio-San Jacinto stretch that left the 15-man main pack and never looked back up to the finish clocking the 78-kilometer hilly and flat trek in 2:8:09, to pocket P3,000 and P2,000 top prizes, respectively, plus trophies.

Richard Aquino of the host town Mangaldan outkicked the 13-man second main bunch to land third for P1,000 and also with trophy.

Rounding up the top ten were: Benjie Mendoza (Manila); Benjie Nituan (Binalonan); Resty Aragon (Manila); Fernando Flores (Dagupan City); Roque Bautista (San Fabian); Rolly Catambay (Mangaldan); Ricky Zabala (Laoac).

Top ten winners in the 50-59 category were: Modesto Nicolas (San Manuel); Marcelo Jugo (San Fabian); Hector Padilla (Urdaneta City); Alfonso Clauna (Dagupan City); Ysmael Gendrano (Manila), Felipe Salindong (San Fabian); Danny Ugoy (Natividad), Jerry Galvez (Olongapo City); Alex Billan (Parañaque City); Ferdinand Ojerio (Manila).

Top five winners in the 60-and-above category were: Arturo Otanes (San Quintin); Elpidio Untalan (Manila); Alex Jugo (San Fabian); Jaime Besacruz (San Jacinto); Arnulfo Rivera (Urdaneta City).

All the top ten winners each category received cash prizes, trophies and medals.
The annual bikefest was sponsored by Excellent Noodles/Alex Billan and supported by Engr. Rodolfo “Boy” Dion. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
