MANGALDAN—A municipal councilor here has proposed an ordinance regulating the seating capacity of pedicab or “padyak”, the three-wheeled manually-operated tri-bike or bike with sidecar for safety of commuters..

The ordinance proposed by Councilor Aldrin Soriano provides that a maximum of only three passengers should be allowed for a pedicab or ”padyak” while only two for the tri-bike.

The proposed measure will enjoin pedicab owners or operators to provide comfortable seats for commuters.

No seat will be allowed at the back of the “padyak” driver.

Soriano added that if the measure becomes a law, the Mangaldan Traffic Regulation Group (MTRG) will enforce it.

Any person/s found violating any provision of the ordinance will be fined P 150.00 for the first offense, P200.00 for second offense, and P250.00 for the third offense. (JCCarino, CdD)
