CALASIAO — The municipal council of Calasiao headed by Vice Mayor Mahadeva Das Mesina has approved on second reading a proposed ordinance regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices in the town.

The proposed ordinance, filed by Councilor Jerald C. Navarro, is in line with the executive order issued by President Rodrigo Duterte last year, seeks to reduce the rate of injuries caused by fireworks.

The council conducted a public hearing that solicited the opinion of the town’s residents.

If the measure becomes law, it will reduce the use of firecrackers and pyrotechnics during New Year revelry and special occasions.

Meanwhile, Grade 11 and 12 students of Calasiao Comprehensive High School studying Humanities and Social Sciences had a chance to observe how councilors hold their sessions as a part of the K-to-12 program and their subject on Philippine politics and governance. (Dana Siapno, CdD)
