Mangaldan ace cyclist Cariño rules San Fabian bikefest

TOUR veteran cyclist Joshua Cariño of Mangaldan started his 2018 campaign in road racing on a bright note by conquering the star-studded 4th San Fabian Mayor Agbayani Cycling Challenge held on January 14.

Cariño, 24, crossed the finish line all by his lonesome, clocking two hours four minutes and 58 seconds for the 88 kilometers flat and hilly course that started and finished at downtown of San Fabian.

Cariño’s teammate, Sto. Tomas-born Dominique Perez outsprinted the seven-man second group nipping Dagupan City resident and Spanish rider Edgar Nieto by a second to finish second and Nieto third.

Rounding up the top ten were: Sherwin Carrera of San Fabian (4th); Efren Reyes of Dagupan City (5th); Warren Bordeos of Laoac (6th); Robeno Javier of Sto. Tomas (7th); Leonard Valdez of Laoac (8th); Reynaldo Navarro of San Jacinto (9th); Jefferson Valdez of Asingan (10th).

There were 44 riders and all the top ten finishers received cash prizes, medals and trophies from the town’s municipal government represented by Sonny Imbuido, technical assistant to the mayor. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
