22 hurt in road mishap

TWENTY-two passengers inside a coaster bus were injured after it rammed a concrete barrier along the national highway in Barangay Bobonan, Pozorrubio.

P/Inspector Armida Abang, duty officer at the Pozorrubio Police Station said, it was 12:10 midnight of January 10 when the coaster bus with plate number BDV 708 fell on its side after hitting three concrete barriers in the ongoing bridge construction in Bobonan.

Abang said the bus just came from a bible study in Tarlac and was headed to Baguio City when the incident happened.

Eighteen out of the twenty-two passengers including the driver, Edwin Leonard Domenden III, sustained injuries, while three were in critical conditions due to head injuries.

All were rushed to Pozorrubio Community Hospital and Urdaneta District Hospital but later transferred to a hospital in Baguio City.

Among those injured were Christian Ambojnon, Cyrelle Serquenza, Wifalyn Ricardo, Elizabeth Serna, Janna Jaramillo, Rene Jaramillo, Shirelyn Castro, Sophia Harmony Castro, Lycca Abalde, Christine Pajarillaga, (teacher) Beejay Castro, Javy Jaramillo, Stephanie Ragas, Julie Ann Dalisdis, Jane Catanglan, (teacher) Pablo Soriano, Junie Nacisa and the driver all from Baguio City.

Abang said, the driver admitted that he didn’t notice the newly installed concrete barriers in the bridge that caused the coaster to overturn.

Pozorrubio Police said, they will advise the contractor (3K Builders) to put signage along the area to avoid future accidents. (Nora Dominguez/Leonardo Micua)
