Lingayen leads elims, 5-0

LINGAYEN–Team Lingayen of the Western Conference bracket leads the tournament carding 5-0 (win-loss) in the elimination rounds of the 2ndGovernor’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament.

It clobbered Labrador, 109-82, and Dasol, 110-92, on December 2 and 3, respectively

The raging Lingayen five, considered now as a title-contender under the tutelage of former LNU Dukes guard Jayson Vinluan, faced its toughest foe in the Western Conference elimination round against the dark-horse and second ranked Sual to be conducted at Aguilar gym on December 9, Saturday.

The team hauled back-to-back wins in their match-ups against Labrador on December 2 with 109-82 followed by another successful game on December 3 against Dasol, 110-92.

Other teams leading in their respective brackets that carded 4-0 are: Binmaley (Central), Urdaneta City (Eastern), Bautista and Mangaldan (Northern).

Lingayen was boosted by the shooting skills of three-pointer guard Marven Jophet Mamaril along with Mark Kenneth Castillo (#2) powered by the gravity-defying stunts of Mark Lester Castillo (#0) and the powerful drives and sure follow-ups of Jessie Mark Artates (# 16).

In their last outings, Team Sual on December 3 defeated Bugallon team while defending champion Team Binmaley brushed off the Mangatarem team.

Urdaneta City delivered Tayug its first defeat last Dec. 3.

Team Bautista beat Alcala and Pozorrubio, 90-89 and 103-95, respectively while Team Mangaldan defeated Sto. Tomas and Binalonan. (PIO/RRB/Jesus Garcia Jr.)
