DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 1 denied that the widening of Gumapos Bridge in Binmaley town has been abandoned, instead a flagman will be assigned to warn motorists of the damaged portion.

Project Engineer Lito Valdehueza of DPWH Region 1, said the project was left unattended for more than three weeks to give way for the curing period of the gutter in preparation for the construction of another lane.

The 3.6-meters lane will be part of the Phase 1 of the P34.9 million project of the national government.

After the curing period, a slope protection will be constructed.

Valdehueza said, after the implementation of phase 1 with one lane, the phase 2 with 3 lanes will be constructed (a total of 4 lanes and 1.2-meters elevation) on the existing lane with a total width of 20-meters widths and P150 million budget allocation.

The widening of Gumapos Bridge is expected to ease the traffic congestion in the area. (Nora Dominguez)
