Dengue cases now 27% higher, diarrhea up by 6%

MOST CASES IN SAN CARLOS CITY

FOURTEEN persons have already died of dengue out of the 5,010 cases reported as of December 18 for the period January to date.

According to the Provincial Health Office, the number of cases is 27% higher than last year’s 3,952 cases.

Based on the dengue surveillance update, 12 towns and cities are still in PHO watch list: Bayambang-494, San Carlos City-378, Malasiqui-301, Urdaneta City-289, Lingayen-270 Bugallon-205, Binmaley-177, Sta. Barbara-167, Pozorrubio-148 and Calasiao-145.

Meanwhile, 43 persons have already died due to acute gastroenteritis or diarrhea from among the 9,150 cases registered from January 1 to December 18 which is 6% higher than last year.

Most of the victims are in the age group of 5 months to four years old.

The towns and cities in PHO watch list for acute gastroenteritis cases are: San Carlos City-850, Calasiao-623, Bayambang-599, Malasiqui-548, Sta. Barbara-402, Lingayen-401, Bolinao-367, Mangaldan-361, Pozorrubio-324 and Binmaley-319. (Nora Dominguez)
