Dagupan as PEZA zone, boon to residents

DAGUPAN City as a Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA)-registered zone will open employment opportunities to thousands of Dagupenos not only to capitalists investing their money in the city.

This was assured by Wilson Manalo, vice chairman of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Council of Dagupan City, adding that as PEZA-registered Zone, more investors will set up business activities whose benefits will trickle down to lowest but skilled economic sector in the city and province.

Charito Plaza, PEZA Director General, was in Dagupan City in November to announce the designation of Dagupan as one of the PEZA-registered Zone in the country after assessing its quality of infrastructures and its central location all over Pangasinan.

As a PEZA zone, Dagupan will initially focus on providing the infrastructure for the Business Processing and Outsourcing (BPO) industry, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and tourism.

A PEZA office was opened at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan City to assist investors facilitate their registration.

Investors, she said, want to start a business activity in PEZA-registered Zone because of the fiscal incentives offered.

The opening of new business activities he said will open employment opportunities especially to the skilled workers since Investors will hiring home-based workers, Manalo said.

He said the entry of investors will have a multiplier effect that will benefit other sectors, i.e. fisherfolk, transport, food, housing, etc. (Leonardo Micua)
