URDANETA City became the second city in Pangasinan to be declared drug-free while Bayambang is the latest town in the province to be declared drug-free as well by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office.

For Urdaneta City, the declaration was issued after all it’s 34 barangays have been finally cleared from illegal drugs.

P/Superintendent Neil Miro, Urdanera City chief of police, said they met their target deadline to clear all the Barangays in Urdaneta before October ends.

Miro said, the 1,625 self- confessed drug users and pushers have completed the community-based rehabilitation program that included lectures, trainings and moral recovery program conducted by the DSWD, city government, TESDA (on livelihood training), Religious Sectors and PNP.

Miro said Urdaneta City Police has since intensified it’s anti-drug campaign with the support of the city government and the DILG’s Masa Masid program to guard against the proliferation of drug users and pushers in the city.

‘We strengthened our intelligence gathering in the city to make sure we could account for all drug users and pushers with the help of the City Government, other government agencies and the community,”  Miro said.

And to help ensure that those who completed the rehab program do not slide back to their old habits, they continue to be closely monitored by both the Urdaneta Police and barangay official, including unannounced drug test.

The cities of Dagupan and San Carlos still cannot meet the conditions to be declared drug-free.

BAYAMBANG CLEARED

IN Bayambang, P/Superintendent Ronald Sacyat, Bayambang police chief, said the 77 Barangays have been cleared of illegal drugs while the 686 drug personalities that surrendered have completed the community-based rehabilitation program (CBRP) that includes lectures, moral recovery program from the religious sector and livelihood training by TESDA in reflexology, massage and backyard gardening.

Meanwhile, 29 high risk drug users are now confined at the rehabilitation center in Dagupan City.

Sacyat said most of the drug reformists who graduated from the CBRP are already earning from their training in massage therapy.

He said the town police will continue to keep a close watch on the activities of the reformed drug personalities who have pledged to help monitor illegal drug activities in their respective barangays.

Bayambang is now awaiting validation by PDEA. (Nora Dominguez)
