Lesser crimes committed in Pangasinan so far

PANGASINA has been more peaceful this year than in 2016 as gleaned from Crime Statistics for the two years released by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO).

A comparative crime statistics table released to THE PUNCH Friday by P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, PPPO information officer, shows a 17% decline (502 cases less) in the commission of crimes from January 1 to November 13, 2017.

The number of solved also showed a 7% drop compared to the same period last year but this is expected to improve by end of December, with more cases solved.

Among the 7 index crimes listed, only homicide cases increased slightly by 9 (36%), from 25 in 2016 to 34 in 2017.

Crimes against persons were down by 258 (16%) from 1,587 to 1,329.

P/Chief Inspector Dominic Poblete, chief of operations at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) on Wednesday said the decrease in crime rate can be attributed to the increased visibility of the police in view of the intensified operations for the war on drugs in Pangasinan,

These include murder decreased by 142 (45%) from 312 in 2016 to 170 in 2017); physical injuries down by 84 (9%) from 931 to 847; rape down by 41 (12%) from 319 to 278.

Crimes against property also decreased by 244 (19%) from 1,262 to 1,018.

Violation of Special Laws decreased by 859 (32%) from 2,679 to 1,820; other non-index crimes down by 109 (5%).

Total crime volume was down by 1,110 ( 9%) from 12,156 in 2016 while 13,895 in 2017. (Leonardo Micua)
