Dagupan launches search for outstanding barangays

THE Dagupan City Peace and Order Advisory Council has launched the search for Outstanding Barangays.
This was after the Dagupan was adjudged as the Most Competitive City in Region 1 based on the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index of the Department of Trade and Industry regional office.
The search is in coordination with with the Department of the Interior and Local Government – Dagupan City and the Dagupan City Police Station.
City Councilor Jose Netu M. Tamayo, project chairman of the search, explained that the city must not sit on its laurels as recipient of various and numerous awards in the region and nationwide, like the Seal Of Good Local Governance for three straight years now, the Child-Friendly City award and now as the Most Competitive City in the region.
“The purpose of the search is to encourage our barangays to do their share in maintaining peace and order in their respective communities especially in the implementation of the laws and ordinances of the city as well as in disaster or emergency preparedness. As the city is a recipient of various awards, then our barangays must as well be as competitive as our city,” said Tamayo.
Tamayo said the 31 barangays of the city will be clustered into four according to their population and income.
Four of them will be declared winners during the Barangay Night at the city plaza on December 27 during the city fiesta
Cluster A is composed of Barangays Pantal, Caranglaan, Mayombo, Tapuac, Malued, Lucao, Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Binloc and Bonuan Boquig.
Cluster B would be Barangays I, II and III, IV, Poblacion Oeste, Pogo Chico, Herrero-Perez, Bolosan and Tambac.
Cluster C will be composed by Barangays Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte, Salisay, Mangin, Tebeng, Mamalingling, Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande and Pogo Grande; while Cluster D is composed of the island barangays like Salapingao, Pugaro, Lomboy, Calmay and Carael.
Winners will be selected depending on their performance from January this year to present.
They will be evaluated by independent body coming from the business sector, faith-based organizations, education, Kapisanan ng mga Broadkasters sa Pilipinas and non-government organizations.
Winning barangays will receive prizes from Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, chairman of the Peace and Order Council, according to Tamayo. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
