DAGUPAN CCTV ORDINANCE

THE Dagupan City police has been directed by the city council to inspect and note compliance by business establishments with the city ordinance requiring them to install Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) inside and outside their premises.

The directive was issued after noting that no CCTV camera recorded the hijacking of a black Toyota Innova in Barangay Tapuac here in the afternoon of Oct. 26 though the area is teeming with many commercial establishments.

The ordinance requires business establishments in Dagupan with a capitalization of at least P1 million or more to install CCTV cameras.

Councilor Jose N. Tamayo, chair of the city council’s committee on peace and order, reminded the police that the ordinance is part of the city’s effort to deter or prevent crimes.

At the city council’s regular session last October 30, city police chief P/Superintendent Franklin Ortiz, was directed to determine how many establishments, particularly banks, have complied with the ordinance.

The ordinance includes a provision that proof of installation of CCTV must be shown when applying for business permits. (Leonardo Micua)
